What is a Safe School Plan?
LAUSD schools are required to comply with California
Education Code (CEC), Section
§32286(a), dealing with the preparation
of "safe school plans." These plans address violence prevention,
emergency preparedness, traffic safety and crisis intervention.
The District has developed the Model Safe School Plan (SSP) for
use as a template in the preparation of safe school plans for each
of the District's 900 schools. The purpose of the template is to
standardize safe school plans throughout the District and minimize
the time required for annual updates. The Safe School Plan
is comprised of two volumes Volume 1 - Prevention Programs and Volume 2 - Emergency Procedures.
What is in the Safe School
Plan, Volume 1?
Volume 1, now named "Coordinated
Safe and Healthy School Plan, Volume 1 - Prevention
Programs," deals with violence prevention, traffic safety, crisis intervention
and student wellness.
Volume 1 is a combination of multiple legislative
and Board policies; one of which is the requirement
by the Child Nutrition and Women, Infants and
Children (WIC) Reauthorization Act of 2004 that
requires our District to have a
Policy on Wellness (Spanish).
Our District also created the
Blueprint For Wellness
(*.pdf) (Spanish)
that serves as a guiding document on creating
wellness in our District and at our school sites.
What do I need to do to
complete the plan?
A Reference Guide will be issued
prior to the new school year (see
Reference Guide - 1242.5 (*.pdf)
as an example for 2008-09) with information on
