OEHS Mission & Goals
Mission

The Office of Environmental Health and Safety is dedicated to providing a safe and healthy environment for the 900,000 students and 80,000 employees of the Los Angeles Unified School District. This mission is supported through periodic inspections of existing District facilities, and careful review of all proposed school sites to ensure a school environment that is health-protective and conducive to learning.

Goals
  1. All students will be provided a school environment that is safe, healthy and conducive to learning.

  2. Safe and healthy working conditions will be provided to all District employees.

  3. Proposed school sites will undergo an appropriate level of environmental review, and new schools will be designed and constructed to reduce environmental risks, conserve energy, and provide optimal conditions for learning.

  4. District facilities will operate in strict compliance with environmental regulations, and in a manner that reduces environmental risks and liabilities.
