School Safety Committee Corner - September

Injury & Illness Prevention Program (IIPP)

As a member of your school’s safety committee, you may be asked to participate in implementing an Injury & Illness Prevention Program (IIPP) dealing with workplace safety. The Office of Environmental Health and Safety (OEHS) has issued the IIPP Template (*.doc) to assist site administrators in the preparation of this required document. Site administrators are required to review, update and implement all elements of their existing IIPPs annually using the OEHS IIPP Template. The IIPP indicates the following as the responsibility of the safety committee:

“The Safety Committee is responsible for reviewing accident reports, regulatory notices, and workplace safety concerns. Other responsibilities include:

  • reviewing work-related injury and illness statistics;
  • making recommendations to the site administrator on necessary corrective actions;
  • conducting periodic site inspections; and
  • reviewing the IIPP and recommending necessary revisions to the site administrator.”

Please visit the "documents" page for documents and links that are great resources for information on work place safety.

For questions or assistance, please contact your district safety officer at (213) 241-3199.
